Multiple Sight Tapes | UV Slider

Multiple Sight Tapes | UV Slider

Have you ever wanted to setup your bow with more than one arrow option but you didn’t want to run two sights or spend the time to setup new tapes and pin gaps each time you wanted to swap out arrows? I’ve faced this struggle and it’s been frustrating - trying to find time and daylight during hunting season to sight in with a different arrow and adjust pin gaps is never easy. The goods new is that with the UV Slider™, I can now run different arrow setups and it only takes a few minutes to swap back and forth. UltraView released their UV Slider™ last year and the combination of TwinTapes™ and their removable cartridges has opened up new options for us bowhunters and innovated the realm of versatility. I’ll walk you through the step by step process to setup and sight in for two different arrow combos and explain how simple it is to go back and forth. I currently run a light and fast arrow setup for open country hunting as well as a heavier arrow setup for moose and elk in the timber.

Choices To Make

Before getting into the process of setting up your UV Slider™, you’ll need to choose what your primary and secondary arrow setups will be as well as which cartridge you’re going to want to correspond with those arrows. My primary arrow will be a heavy setup and my secondary will be a lighter setup. As for cartridges, I prefer to use a 3 pin horizontal cartridge for both of my arrow setups and dial in my primary arrow on the inside sight tape and secondary on the outside tape.

Sighting In The Primary Arrow

  • Sight in your UV Slider™ at 20 yards with the fixed middle pin on the UV3XL™ cartridge. Make your elevation and windage adjustments with the DualDial™.
  • Keeping the slider locked, install a Setup Tape with a Tape Plate on the inside of the sight rail, being sure to align your second TripleMark™ indicator with the 20 yard mark on the Setup Tape.
  • Work your way back to 60 yards as you roll your slider down until the fixed middle pin is hitting the middle of the target. The number on the setup tape that corresponds with the second indicator will be your Sight Tape number for your primary arrow setup. At this point, keep your slider locked on 60 yards and install your recently selected sight tape and plate onto the inside of the rail. Using the elongated slots on the Tape Plate, tighten the plate down so that the 60 yard mark lines up with the second TripleMark™ indicator.

  • You’ve now got your middle pin sighted in for your primary arrow setup and it’s time to setup your pin gap along with your first and third indicator.
  • Head to 30 yards and lock your dial down with the middle indicator pointing to the 30 yard mark. Go ahead and shoot a few arrows to confirm that you’ve chosen the right sight tape.
  • With your slider locked at 30 yards, walk up to 20 yards and sight in your top pin. In this step, your sight slide must stay locked and only adjust the top moveable pin in the UV3XL™. The adjustment screw for the moveable pins in the UV3XL™ is located in the target end of the scope cartridge.
  • Once you’ve sighted in your first pin for 20 yards, move back to 40 yards and sight in your third moveable pin using the same process as the 20 yard pin.
  • Now that you’ve got your pin gap setup and your slider still locked with the middle indicator at the 30 yard mark, loosen to adjust the first and third indicators so that they line up with the 20 and 40 yard marks on your sight tape.
  • You’re now fully setup with your inside tape and horizontal 3 pin cartridge. Wherever you slide your sight, you’ll have 3 indicators showing you what distance each pin is set at and you can use any pin as they’re all in play with this setup and pin combination.

Sighting In The Secondary Arrow

This setup will be a similar process, except you’ll be using your outside
sight tape and will be working with a single indicator rather than your TripleMark™ indicators that are on the inside of the sight rail. At this point you’ll need to choose what cartridge you’ll be using for your secondary setup. If you’re choosing a vertical pin, you’ll need to remember that your top fiber is your floater and that will be the fiber that your outside yardage marker corresponds with at all times. If you choose to use a second horizontal 3 pin cartridge you’ll have the advantage of having a pin gap that can be set for 20-30-40 yards when at home base but will need to remember that your middle pin is the only one in play once your sight is moved away from 30 yard home base. I’ll walk you through the process of sighting in us in another horizontal 3 pin cartridge as I feel that’s the most versatile option for the hunting that I do.

  • Install your new cartridge and sight it in at 20 yards with the fixed middle pin. Make your elevation adjustments using the DualDial™.
  • Keeping the slider locked at 20, install your Tape Plate with a Setup Tape on the outside of the sight rail aligning the 20 yard mark on the Setup Tape with the single indicator.
  • Work your way back to 60 yards as you roll your slider down until the fixed middle pin is hitting the middle of the target. If you’re using a vertical pin, you’ll want to use the top fiber for this. The number on the setup tape that corresponds with the outside indicator will be your Sight Tape number for your secondary arrow setup. At this point, keep your slider locked on 60 yards and install your recently selected sight tape and plate onto the outside of the rail. You may need to remove your setup tape from the tape plate to be used with your new sight tape. Using the elongated slots on the Tape Plate, tighten the tape plate down so that the 60 yard mark lines up with single outside indicator.
  • You’ve now got your middle pin sighted in for your secondary arrow setup and it’s time to adjust your pin gap if you’re using a horizontal 3 pin cartridge. If you’re using a vertical pin style cartridge, you’re ready to hunt.
  • To finalize the setup on a horizontal 3 pin cartridge, head to 30 yards and lock your dial down with the single outside indicator pointing to the 30 yard mark. Go ahead and shoot a few arrows to confirm that you’ve chosen the right sight tape.
  • With your slider locked at 30 yards, walk up to 20 yards and sight in your top pin. Be sure to only adjust the top moveable pin in the UV3XL™ for this step in the process as your sight slide should stay locked.
  • Once you’ve sighted in your first pin for 20 yards, move back to 40 yards and sight in your third moveable pin using the same process as the 20 yard pin.

You’re now fully setup with your outside sight tape and secondary cartridge.

If you’re using a vertical pin cartridge, the top fiber will correspond with the yardage indicated on the outside tape. If you’re using a horizontal 3 pin for your secondary cartridge, you’ve got 20-30-40 yard pins when your slide is locked to 30 yards. Once you slide your sight, the fixed middle pin will correspond with the number that the outside indicator is pointing to at any time.

Now that you’ve setup your sight for two different arrow setups, all you have to do to swap between cartridges and arrows in your quiver to be ready to hunt different scenarios or different species. Just remember to label your cartridges so that you choose the right one for the setup you’re running that day.
