2021 JOAD Target Nationals Recap

Reunion

USA archery hosted its first JOAD target nationals since 2019 this past weekend in Decatur Alabama. For many archers, this was the first time they had seen each other in almost 2 years. The sheer number of smiling faces and excitement about this reunion was encouraging to witness.

Insane Scores

The scores were higher this year than ever. Cadet archer, Sawyer Sullivan shot a world record of 708 in the first qualification round, which he promptly broke the second day with a 714 out of 720. Matthew Russell led the Junior men with a 710 on his second qualification round. Emma Kim broke the recurve cadet female world record with a 1327 out of 1440. Samantha Katz, Adam Curran, Grady Kane, and Liko Arreola all shot perfect 150’s in their elimination matches on the 30-meter field.

Rain, Lightning, and Fire

The archers overcame quite a bit of adverse weather this past weekend. There were a total of 7 delays due to lightning and even a fire delay on the recurve field because someone shot the PA system. Some archers were able to shoot under the stadium lights, which resulted in some pretty cool photos. It was a great shoot and we hope to see you all in Alabama for JOAD nationals next year.
